Jurisdictions

Which Jurisdiction Meets Your Compliance Standard?

Pixelzmint works with a curated set of jurisdictions chosen for regulatory credibility, banking access, and practical utility for East African investors.

Jurisdiction Selection Is a Compliance Decision, Not a Marketing Choice

The wrong jurisdiction creates substance risk, banking difficulty, and reputational exposure — not savings.

Every jurisdiction Pixelzmint recommends has passed our internal due diligence framework: it must appear on no FATF blacklist, carry a satisfactory IMF assessment, offer a credible pathway to banking relationships, and impose substance requirements that confirm genuine economic activity. We do not promote jurisdictions solely because they have low annual fees or minimal disclosure requirements. The attractiveness of an offshore location must be balanced against the increasing scrutiny applied by Kenyan banks, the KRA, and counterparty institutions when they see certain flags on corporate documents. The jurisdictions detailed below represent the locations where Pixelzmint maintains active service provider relationships and where we have successfully delivered client mandates.

Jurisdictions We Cover

Each profile reflects the jurisdiction's typical use case, key compliance obligations, and banking environment.

MU

Mauritius

A Tier 1 offshore centre for East African investors. The Global Business Company (GBC) offers treaty access with 46 countries including Kenya's double taxation agreement. Substance requirements include local directors, a registered office, and demonstrable management and control on the island. Banking through Bank of Mauritius-regulated institutions is well-established.

VG

British Virgin Islands

The BVI Business Company remains the most widely used offshore vehicle globally. Beneficial ownership registration is now mandatory under the BOSS Act. BVI structures work well as intermediate holding companies above operating assets, but banking requires a correspondent-banking-eligible institution and a thorough KYC dossier.

AE

UAE — DIFC & ADGM

Dubai's DIFC and Abu Dhabi's ADGM freezone frameworks offer common-law entities with English-language courts, strong banking infrastructure, and zero corporate tax on qualifying income under the UAE's 2023 CT regime. Suitable for clients with Middle East trade flows or who require a UAE residency permit alongside an investment structure.

JE

Jersey

Jersey sits at the premium end of the offshore spectrum: a robust trust law, sophisticated private banking infrastructure, and a long-standing regulatory reputation. Minimum asset thresholds at Jersey banks are material; this jurisdiction is appropriate for clients with investable assets above KSh 150 million equivalent.

What Pixelzmint Does Not Do With Jurisdiction Selection

Transparency about service limits is part of the compliance commitment.

Pixelzmint does not recommend jurisdictions that appear on the EU's list of non-cooperative tax territories, the FATF grey or black list, or that have failed reciprocal exchange commitments under the OECD's Global Forum. We do not assist in the establishment of structures whose primary purpose is to conceal assets from a legitimate taxation authority. We do not advise on cryptocurrency-specific offshore arrangements. If a client's objective cannot be served by a compliant structure in a credible jurisdiction, we will say so clearly at the outset rather than accept an engagement we cannot deliver responsibly. These limits protect the client as much as they reflect our professional standards.

“I approached Pixelzmint expecting to be steered toward the cheapest offshore option. Instead, their team produced a two-jurisdiction comparison report — Mauritius versus BVI — that clearly explained the substance requirements and banking consequences of each. Their honest assessment that BVI banking would be difficult for my specific source-of-wealth profile saved me considerable time and expense.”
